FH is a range of long distance rigids and tractor units launched by Volvo in 1993 to replace the F range. FH means “Forward control High cab”. The first available models were the FH12 and FH16.
Equipped, at the beginning, with a D12 engine, the Volvo FH has been upgraded to a D13 engine (420, 460, 500 or 540 hp) or D16 engine (550, 650 or 750 hp) for the Euro 6 norm. It benefits from the I-Shift transmission and the I-See system that helps save up to 5% of fuel. The Volvo FH is also equipped with the VEB (Volvo Engine Brake), a compression type engine developed by Volvo.
Available with different axle configurations (4×2, 6×2, 6×4, 8×2 and 8×4), the Volvo FH has a maximum AGVW of 120 tons. There are four cab types for the Volvo FH : day cab, sleeper cab, Globetrotter and Globetrotter XL.
In 2003, Volvo introduced the new FH16, the manufacturer’s most powerful truck to this day. The Volvo FH was voted “Truck of the Year” three times: in 1994, in 2000 and in 2014 for the latest version of the FH16.
